When Your Body Says Enough: Identity, Safety, and the Toolkit You Deserved Earlier

Season #4

You pushed through.

You got the degree, the promotion, the shareholder title.

You wore the green hard hat as the youngest person on site and figured out how to earn the room anyway.

And at some point... your body sent you a bill.

Not a memo. Not a warning.

A decision to finally listen to what it has to say.

Monique Tenszen is a principal geo-environmental engineer with over 25 years of consulting experience, a shareholder in her firm, and a mother of three daughters. She built her career in the Peace Region of Northern Alberta, navigating remote sites, male-dominated field environments, and the particular exhaustion of being exceptional while pretending none of it costs you anything.

Then a move to Calgary changed her role. And her body finally stopped cooperating with the story.

In this episode, Monique walks us through real scenarios from her career, including a direct threat to her safety from a colleague, being dismissed, undermined, and handed the "female tasks" in rooms where she has senior expertise. She shares what happened in her body in those moments, the thoughts that followed, and what she wishes she had known then.

But more than that... she shares who she is becoming now.

Through yoga nidra, somatic coaching, and the identity work we do inside Quantum Graduation, Monique is re-engineering her nervous system. Not fixing herself. Reclaiming herself.

This episode is part one of a multi-part series. Because one hour was not enough.

What You'll Hear:

Monique on the moment a client threatened her career if she didn't engage with him in a certain way (that was inappropriate…) and how the room responded

Why talk therapy and self-care "band-aids" changed her mind but never touched her body

The difference between analytically understanding a pattern and actually releasing it

How 80% of your body's information travels upward to your brain... and what happens when you've spent decades ignoring that signal

What Monique did in a recent meeting when someone tried to assign her a task misaligned with her role. She said one word. No apology. No explanation. And she let the silence sit.

What her husband noticed first.

What her daughters are now learning to watch her model.

The somatic micro-tools she uses in real time: finger tapping, bilateral foot movement, hand on heart, and why they work neurologically

Why investing in yourself can feel harder than investing in your children... and why that gap is worth examining

For the Listener Who Is Earlier in Her Career:

If you are five years in and already wondering why it costs this much to simply exist in your field...

You are not imagining it.

And you don't have to wait 20 years to feel safe in your own body.

This episode was made for you too.

A Note from Kinia:

Monique told me stories in this recording that made me cry.

I thought about my daughter. Two years old. Dancing in the kitchen with moves that are slightly robotic and completely her own. Dancing because no one has told her yet that there is a gaze on her.

We are building a world where she never has to find her way back from that.

That is why we do this work.

See you in part two.
